I want to talk about ways to creatively promote a web site offline. I am talking about programs that aren’t in the traditional sense of offline marketing, and tend to be less expensive, than most other forms of promotion. I have been thinking about this topic quite a lot lately, I really want to find ways of promoting my website offline, and I am sure you guys could use some ideas too.
Over the years I have come up with some pretty decent offline promotions, and of course I read and hear about ways people creatively promote themselves all the time. Some of my favorites have included:
A pet food start-up created a program where they would provide free envelopes to veterinary offices to use when they sent a customer an appointment notice or bill. Of course every envelope had their logo and web address on the back. Pretty smart since it was a good chance a vets customer would have a pet and would be a buyer of pet food, and then their was also the connection of the customers trusted vet to their company, it was like a silent endorsement.
I had one customer who sold sports memorabilia online, and of course he was a huge sports nut, who went to all the local games. I had him print up a bunch of bumper stickers with his company name and domain to pass out at the tailgate parties. He told me he would offer to go ahead and stick it on their RV or truck for them, which he said most people appreciated, and in return he knew his bumper stickers were being displayed. He was able to promote his site to his target audience, and in turn they were promoting his business every time they went to another tailgate party.
I had another customer who had a website where he promoted local parties for the 20 something crowd. He made his money from the advertising on his site, but it only worked if he had lots of visitors looking at his customers ads. We brainstormed and came up with the idea of him printing out 5 different styles of tee-shirts that were designed for women. Of course they all had his domain on them. Then whenever he went to one of the local events, he would pass them out, for free, to what he deemed the “Hot Girls.” He reported this worked very well for him, he said all the girls got a lot of attention while wearing his tee-shirts, so he got a lot of exposure.
My point here is that there are tons of ways to promote your website offline, I am looking for some good ones for this site, you just have to get those creative juices flowing and come up with a great idea.
